Police in Guelph have arrested a 69‑year‑old local man after investigators discovered thousands of child sexual abuse images and videos on his electronic devices.

The case began in late November when the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children alerted the Guelph Police Service Internet Child Exploitation Unit to potentially illegal material. Police seized a laptop and phone linked to the man on November 26 as part of the investigation.

After reviewing the content, detectives determined that the devices contained a large volume of child sexual abuse material. On January 7, police arrested the 69‑year‑old Guelph resident and charged him with possessing, accessing, and making available child sexual abuse and exploitation material.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court on February 17. Police have not released his name due to privacy and legal restrictions.

This investigation highlights continued law enforcement efforts to identify and remove online child sexual exploitation material, often with support from national and international reporting centres.

Authorities did not report any additional charges at this time, and the investigation remains active.
