Freezing Rain Warning in Waterloo Region Tuesday — Ice Accumulation, Slippery Roads Expected

Environment Canada has issued a weather warning for Waterloo Region ahead of a significant freezing rain event Tuesday, which could bring hazardous travel conditions for commuters and pedestrians.
Forecasters say freezing rain is expected to develop Tuesday morning and continue for several hours before transitioning to snow by evening. Along with the freezing rain, there could be snow or ice pellets mixed in at times, and up to 1–5 mm of ice accretion is possible on roads, sidewalks, vehicles and other outdoor surfaces.
The buildup of ice will make surfaces slippery and difficult to navigate, increasing the risk of vehicle accidents and slips for pedestrians. Drivers are advised to allow extra travel time and reduce speeds, while walkers should take care on untreated footpaths.
This system follows a snowy start to the week that already impacted Monday’s commute, with early‑morning snow leading to a snow event declaration and a temporary on‑street parking ban in Cambridge to help plows clear streets.
The freezing rain and mixed precipitation are part of a broader winter pattern affecting much of Southern Ontario, where similar ice and slippery conditions are forecast in nearby regions on Tuesday and Wednesday.
