Flood Warnings Updated for New Hamburg and Ayr | GRCA

Flood warnings have been updated for parts of Waterloo Region as snowmelt and warming temperatures continue to raise river levels this weekend.
The Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA) says communities along the Nith River, including New Hamburg and Ayr, are at increased risk of flooding due to rapid snowmelt combined with recent rainfall. A Flood Warning (Zone 1) is expected to take effect in New Hamburg on Saturday morning, with Ayr following overnight into Sunday.
Municipal flood officials in Wilmot Township and North Dumfries have been notified and are advising residents in low-lying areas to stay alert and prepared. The GRCA notes that river flows could rise quickly, particularly if precipitation continues.
Localized flooding has already resulted in road closures in New Hamburg, including sections of Holland Mills Road between Bleams Road and the Nith River Bridge, as well as Lisbon Road east of Nafziger Road.
A low-pressure system moving through the region may bring ice pellets and additional snow, which could further complicate conditions. Flood watches remain in effect for several communities downstream, including Brantford, Brant County, Six Nations, Caledonia, and Dunnville.
Residents are encouraged to monitor conditions closely and avoid flooded roads and riverbanks.
