Cold Weather Returns to KWC After Brief Warm-Up

After a brief period of milder temperatures, winter conditions are returning to the Kitchener-Waterloo-Cambridge region as colder air moves back in to wrap up the weekend.
The recent warm-up caused widespread snowmelt across the region, which was followed by freezing rain on Saturday. As temperatures dropped overnight, melted snow and rain refroze, leading to icy conditions on roads, sidewalks, and other surfaces early Sunday.
Flurries are expected throughout Sunday, with Environment Canada forecasting up to two centimetres of snowfall by the end of the day. The combination of lingering ice and light snow may create slippery travel conditions, particularly during the morning hours.
Colder temperatures are expected to persist into the coming week. Environment Canada is calling for a continued chance of flurries through at least Thursday, signaling a return to more typical mid-winter weather after the short-lived thaw.
Residents are being advised to exercise caution when travelling, especially while walking or driving on untreated or icy surfaces. Motorists are encouraged to adjust their driving to winter conditions, while pedestrians should remain mindful of slippery sidewalks and pathways.
Weather-related advisories and conditions may change as the week progresses, and residents are encouraged to stay informed through official forecasts and alerts.
